Website Audit

Heather and Little is a company that fabricates sheet metal. They work primarily with restoring metal elements on heritage buildings. I was asked to go through the entire website and audit the content. My background in UX allowed me to provide suggestions for the flow of the site and other improvements such as adding calls to action where necessary.

Revision

  • Impactful line-break. Separating the sentence allows for a more powerful delivery to the reader.

  • Use of italics to invoke a sense of wonder.

Revision

  • Improved sentence structure.

  • Added an additional call to action by referencing the "Get A Quote" button.

An example of revised and improved copy.

Original

The Order page on Heather + Little's website is intended to get customers to purchase sheet metal, tiles, and other products. I suggested some revisions to the web copy to better reflect the websites capabilities.

1. The Order in the top navigation menu leads customers to believe they will actually be able to add products to their cart. The website is not actually set up for e-commerce so it is misleading and unhelpful to the customer's experience with the site.

2. This copy does not provide enough urgency to the reader. Ideally, the goal is for a customer to fill out the "Get A Quote" form. In this paragraph, there should be a direct call to action for them to fill out a quote if they are interested in purchasing a product.

Revision

1. After the team considered my suggestion we collaborated to come up with something more appropriate. Order in the menu bar was changed to Products.

2. The main copy was revised to include "Get a Quote" to get the customers to take action.
